Lines Composed on the Road from Washington

Nature lies as in a tomb,

Her Maker, as its undertaker,

Hath clothed her in royal robes of white

Until a breeze, like a gasp of breath,

Interrupts her peaceful slumber

For He, who moveth all things, sleepeth not, though all else sleepeth.
